The Officer chose to Dive into murky Water because Saving a Life, even a Four-Legged one!

Posted on June 23, 2026

That kind of quick action turned a [te.rrify.ing ac.cid.ent] into a rescue story.
The most powerful detail is that Officer Harriman [removed] his gun [belt] and went straight into the water. He saw Moochie as a life worth saving, and that is exactly what dog lovers hope someone would do.

A truck was sinking in more than 8 feet of water in Carver, Massachusetts, and one dog was still [tr.app.ed] inside.
The [ac.cide.nt] happened near South Meadow Village after 59-year-old Debra Titus accidentally drove her pickup truck into the water. Debra managed to escape, and one of her dogs, Stitch, was able to swim out on his own.

But her other dog, Moochie, was still inside the submerged truck.
When Carver Police Officer David Harriman arrived with his partner, there was no time to wait. The vehicle was underwater, visibility was poor, and Moochie was [tr.app.ed] in the back seat.

Harriman removed his gun belt and dove in.
He swam down to the truck, managed to get the door open, and pulled Moochie out of the vehicle. When he brought the dog to the surface, Moochie was [re.port.edly unc.onsc.ious]. But Harriman did not stop there. He gave the dog what he later described as a “little squeeze,” and moments later, Moochie came back.

For Debra, who had already escaped the water and was watching one of her dogs still in [da.ng.er], that rescue meant everything.
Moochie was [sh.ak.en], but thankfully survived. Debra, Stitch, and Moochie were all reported to be in good health after the [ac.cide.nt].

What makes this story so powerful is how quickly Officer Harriman acted. He did not treat Moochie as “just a dog.” He understood what every dog lover understands immediately: for many families, a dog is not property. A dog is family.

Harriman said as much himself. At home, he had an 8-month-old English bulldog named Jax, and he said he would do anything he could for him.

That is the kind of compassion people remember.
A truck went under.
A dog was [tra.pp.ed].
And one officer chose to dive into murky water because saving a life, even a four-legged one, was worth the [ri.sk].

That officer is truly a hero, he didn’t take time to consider if the life was human or not he just saw a life in [di.stre.ss].
The real heroes are willing to sacrifice everything for the weakest among us.
