For many years, Polito roamed the streets of San Martín, often met with rejection as he searched for a place to belong. Life was tough for him as an abandoned animal—his appearance marked by small tumors often frightened people away. At just around two years old, Polito was full of fear and defensive, even trying to bite those who approached, thinking they meant him harm. Little did he know that help was finally at hand.
It took several hours for Polito to understand that we were there to help. When he finally trusted us enough to allow care, we brought him to the veterinary hospital. Yet, Polito remained nervous, so much so that the doctors had to be cautious when examining him; previous experiences had left him wary of humans.
Diagnosed with transmissible venereal tumor (TVT), Polito needed chemotherapy to treat his condition—an experience he shares with countless stray animals.

Healing Polito wasn’t only about addressing his physical ailments; it was also vital to mend his emotional wounds. His guarded nature and deep sadness were evident—he lacked trust and shied away from human contact.
At Servivet Veterinary Clinic, he initially refused to eat due to his poor health and low hemoglobin levels, which added to our worries. Various foods didn’t tempt him, so we had to nourish him with a syringe. We provided him with A/D canned food, designed for weak dogs, administering it with care.

Progress was slow at first, but eventually, Polito began eating multiple times a day. His improved appetite filled us with joy and hope as we watched his demeanor change. Gradually, he began to trust people, enjoying their company and expressing happiness during visits. As we showered Polito with attention and kindness, his outlook brightened.
Under the care of specialists, Polito received chemotherapy sessions intended to eliminate the tumors causing him discomfort. His treatment plan required at least six sessions to ensure a full recovery.

Polito no longer shows signs of distress, and his renewed strength has him walking again, although he is still regaining weight.
