Chata Gil is a native Californian with a golden heart who lives in Los Angeles. When she was visiting family in El Salvador, she was shocked to see how many dogs had been left on the streets.
While dining at a bustling restaurant, she noticed a stray dog wandering from table to table, clearly hungry and desperate for a scrap of food. Its matted fur, thin frame, and tired eyes caused most people to recoil in disgust. Diners turned their backs, shooing the dog away with harsh words, calling it “ugly” without a second thought.
No one showed it a hint of compassion no one, except her. Moved by the dog’s sad eyes and ignored suffering, she chose to do what others wouldn’t. Instead of turning him away, she offered him food and a gentle hand, proving that kindness doesn’t depend on appearances.

Many people disapproved of Chata’s decision to be the exception and feed the dog; some even mocked her, but that didn’t stop her.
Chata couldn’t stop thinking about the dog after he left and went looking for him. When Chata left the dog curled up and abandoned in the street, he decided to pick him up, but he was terrified because he thought they would hurt him.
The lady fed her again in try to recover her confidence. She then arranged for the dog to be transported to the veterinarian by the Miracles of Love Association of El Salvador.
Chata discovered that the dog was far better than his outward appearance suggested after a veterinarian examination. Initially, she considered euthanasia to stop the dog’s obvious anguish.

Chata contacted the Saving Huey Foundation animal rescue organisation in the United States to aid the dog that would later be named “Sal.” Chata intended to return to that country a few days later.
Sal is currently receiving medical treatment in El Salvador, where he will remain under the care of healthcare professionals until he has made a full recovery. Once his condition stabilizes and he is strong enough to travel, arrangements will be made to safely transfer him to Southern California for the next phase of his care and rehabilitation.
Sal’s rescue group has contacted Tracy Lystra, a member of the Saving Huey Foundation team, who is monitoring Sal’s status and paying his vet fees through Paypal.
